![]() ![]() While a minority of individuals are mobile, easily travelling along financial and trade flows, the vast majority is still in mobility (in “transit”). Through these analyzes, we see what appears as a hierarchy of the types of circulation of persons that combines a variety of situations. To better understand the diversity of migration projects of individuals, we develop a sociological analysis of the figures of the African presence in Turkey and a typology of their different forms of presence. In the light of a survey conducted among sub-Saharan migrants in Istanbul, we argue that these divergent policies have a significant impact on individual practices. However, the EU urges Turkey to “better manage” migration and mobility that pass through its territory, and the application of the acquis communautaire in the context of Turkey’s accession to the status of membership of the EU plays a role of leverage for both parties. Turkish government seeks to increase its influence in sub-Saharan Africa, attractiveness and circulation of flows of all kinds are binded. In a global context where the “good practices” in matters of the management of migrations is constantly promoted, Turkey offers a model of international mobility in discordance with the European recommendations, notably through a flexible visa policy, including for the nationals of African countries. ![]() With or without UE : Migrants routes from Africa to Turkey ![]()
